Practice Self-Care and Mindfulness:

Recovery from negative experiences requires both self-care and mindfulness. 

One can unwind, relieve tension, and find calm by engaging in self-care practises like exercise, meditation, and time spent in nature. 

One can definitely improve his/her ability to control emotions and increase self-awareness by practising mindfulness.  Mindfulness / meditation is paying attention to the current moment without passing judgement.

Challenge Negative Thoughts:

Bad memories of the past can be a significant obstacle to moving past unpleasant experiences. 

These ideas could be confining and prevent you from getting closure ( a complete acceptance of what has happened and an honoring of the transition away from what’s finished to something new which can be better based on your thoughts and actions ). 

Try rephrasing negative thoughts in a more positive way and put your attention on your accomplishments, aspirations, and abilities to combat them.

Focus on the Present:

To forget painful memories, you should make sincere efforts to only focus on the present. It is not easy as it sounds, but small progress should be done each day.

You need to make sincere efforts to concentrate on current good circumstances, the good persons in your life at present, and the things you are grateful for; rather than obsessing on the past ( experiences, people etc ).

You should try to take part in things that make yourself happy and joyful, this will help in moving on from unpleasant events and finding satisfaction in the present.
